Does Win2000 have an equivalent "Scanreg.exe" file? Boot problems.

Hi.
My friend brought me his laptop which has 2000 pro loaded.
He knocked it over while it was shutting down. Every
option on the boot page yields the same results, it
starts, appears to lock for about five minutes, shows a
blues screen for about a second, I can't pause it, and
reboots. I think his registry may be corrupted, but I
don't know 2000 that well. In 98 there is scanreg which
lets you choose an older registry, but the boot from older
command on his laptop, just does the above mentioned
action.
Can I boot this with a disk? run and registry repair
program and try again? Does anyone have any suggestions?
He has a lot of important reports and data he needs out of
it. Please help.

To start the repair process boot the Windows 2000 CD-Rom or setup disks.
