A web site I want to see uses Silverlight for its video.

I don't want to install Silveright if it slows down my browser. Can someone

They're all mostly the same until tested - bunch of hooks into the
registry for watching, selling your habits as information, the hustle
of coming back with direct advertising, all kinds of bullshit spam
suddenly showing up from nobody you thought you knew until installing
it. Total kludge like sugar into a gas tank. Very good for everybody
is it's something for nothing. I keep binary images for that purpose,
give out in like kind bullshit information when possible, and use a
system restore like washing my hands of it afterwards. The good stuff
is out there, just takes a little looking.

Run separate browsers ?

Put the Silverlight in the Microsoft browser.

Put the Flash in Firefox.

Run Chrome for HTML5.

Be creative.

Use the Plugin or Addon controls, to limit which browser
does what.

*******

I only run Flash in IE, and my main browser, Firefox, has
no Adobe Flash in it. I see fewer distracting advertisements
that way.

Its crap. Avoid like the proverbial plague (or the wilderbeast).

I don't see why they feel the need to use rubbish like this when
there are already well established programs out there that can do this
job without the bullshit.

In other words... You don't do YouTube? Your one and only interest
in technology is computers? YouTube is the bomb for technology and
innovation.

You do have broadband, right?

Speaking of Silverlight and Netflix...

There are some keyboard shortcuts that will make your Netflix
viewing more fun.

.... click on the video area. You see no indication that focus has
changed, but that step is necessary (only once per showing). It's
an oddity.

.... hover your pointer over the progress bar, and wait for the
small video preview window to pop up

.... once it pops up, you can use shortcut keys to do cool stuff
like fast-forward

Now...

Simply pressing and holding the right arrow key causes the video
to preview in 10 second increments.

Modifying the arrow key with control will cause preview mode to
stick. Adding another such combination causes it to increment by
20 (instead of 10) seconds per frame. One more time will put it in
30 seconds-per-frame mode. Simply pressing the arrow key with no
modifier drops it out of that mode.

If anybody knows other shortcuts for Silverlight, please advise.

It is a marvel, not just for technology and information.

For anyone who enjoyed music... Broadband, Firefox (with adblock),
and some decent speakers will get you a marvelous experience on
YouTube. Just start browsing and enjoy. Hours of fun. If you did
enjoy music and you haven't tried that, just do it.

No, Silverlight will not slow down your browser. It is just another plug-in,
much like Flash (well, actually a direct competitor to Flash). It shouldn't
affect your general browsing experience at all - other than the fact that
you will then be able to view Silverlight presentations.

If you are worried about things slowing down your browser then uninstall any
toolbars that you might have, and don't install any new ones.
