Does selecting HP System Recovery Format really Format the hard dr

Does selecting option f (to format the hard drive and reinstall windows) in
HP System Recovery actually reformat the hard drive? Or does it just
overwrite all the data on the hard drive with the data on the recovery disks?

Contact the HP tech support if you're interested in the details of your
Recovery CD. The target of a Recovery CD is to restore the system to the
state when purchased. Therefore, it does not really matter if this will
happen via reformat and reinstall or restoring via the factory image.

Addendum: My previous post applies to System Recovery also when located
at a (hidden) partition rather than being a Recovery CD.
