does microsoft ever monitor these pages???

I am beginning to wonder if MS tech support ever monitors
these pages?

In the past 2 weeks I have posted several issues, and
have not received any type of "timely" response,
sometimes not any response at all!

What I consider as timely, is within a few hours, not a
few days!

Maybe I am just preachin to the choir here, but I just
wondered!

Even if MS doesn't have a fix or suggestion, it wouldn't
kill them to say so, instead of lettin some one hang on
forever with baited breath.

Dwight;
Not officially.
However Microsoft employees do stop in sometimes on their own time.

What you consider "timely" may not be a reasonable expectation since
this is a peer to peer support group with questions being asked and
answered by people like you and me.
If the person that knows the answer is not available, you need to wait
or possibly post to another more appropriate newsgroup:
http://aumha.org/nntp.htm

If you need a "timely" answer your best option may be paid support
where you can communicate one on one with a Microsoft tech.
Or you could use one of your free support calls if you have any
available.

Here is the original post from several hours ago rodney

"I am currently working on a gateway select 1400 cs
desktop PC. It is running Windows XP home edition, AMD
athlon 1400 cpu, 256 PC 133 mb ram.
Every time I try to go into windows to include safe mode,
I get the following error message and it never goes into
windows.
"lsass.exe - bad image" "The application or dll
C:\windows\system32\lsasrv.dll is not a valid windows
image. Please check this against your installation
diskette."

I know there is a repair I need to do from the recovery
console, but am not sure exactly what to do.

Can anybody help me with this issue??

Thanks in advance!!

Try a repair install as follows:
NOTE, while a repair install should leave your data files intact, if
something goes wrong during the repair install, you may be forced to start
over and do a clean install of XP. If you don't have your data backed up,
you would lose your data should that eventuality occur.

Assuming your system is set to boot from the CD-ROM drive and you have an
actual XP CD as opposed to a recovery CD, boot with the XP
CD in the drive and perform a repair install as outlined below. If the
system isn't set to boot from the CD or you are not sure, you need to enter
the system's BIOS. When you boot the system, the first screen usually has
instructions that if you wish to enter set press a specific key, when you
see that, do so. Then you will have to navigate to the boot sequence, if
the CD-ROM drive is not first line, set it first in the boot sequence. Save
your settings and exit with the XP CD in the drive. The system will reboot.

When the system boots, a few screens into the process you may see a message
instructing you
to hit any key in order to boot from the CD along with a countdown. When
you see this be sure to
hit a key on the keyboard, if you miss this instruction and the system fails
to boot from the CD, it's too
late, you'll need to reboot and try again.

Once you have pressed a key, setup should begin. You will see a reference
asking if you need to load special drivers and another notice that if you
wish to begin the ASR (Automatic Recovery Console) depress F2. Just let
setup run past all of that. It will continue to load files and drivers.

Then it will bring you to a screen. Eventually, you will come to a screen
with the option to (1) setup Windows or (2) Repair Windows Installation
using the Recovery console. ***The selection you want at this screen is
"Setup Windows,"
NOT "Repair Windows Installation.

The first option, to setup Windows is the one you want and requires you to
press enter. When asked, press F8 to accept the end user agreement. Setup
will then search for previous versions of Windows. Upon finding your
version, it will ask if you wish to Repair your current installation or
install fresh. Press R, that will run a repair installation. From there
on, follow the screens.

If you only have a recovery CD, your options are quite limited. You can
either purchase a retail version of XP will allow you to perform the above
among other tools and options it has or you can run your system recovery
routine with the Recovery CD which will likely wipe your drive, deleting all
files but will restore your setup to factory fresh condition.

Micheal one problem with that issue

It won't give me the option to do a repair install
when I boot to the cd and go past the first 2 screens.

Isn't there some fix from recovery console for this???

No fix in the Recovery Console for this, at least not anything of which I'm
aware.

If it's not offering the option for a repair install, setup is usually too
badly damaged to be repaired. However, you say it doesn't offer this after
the first two screens, I don't think you are going far enough. You have to
go past the option to "Repair Windows Installation" as that opens the RC and
there's nothing in there for this type of error.

That said, if you can't do a repair install, you could do a new install to a
separate partition, if you don't have a spare partition, you would need
third party software to resize current partitions to create enough free
space to create another partition. In any event, once installed on the new
partition, you could then copy your files from the old setup to the new one.

Thanks micheal,
I don't want to have to do that, but............

Like I said its the 2nd screen after U get into setup
first U get the option screen to go into recovery console
or continue to setup, then U get the agreement screen (U
press f8 here)
then U get the screen where it should give U the option
to do a repair install, but it desn't!!

"To install windows xp now press enter
to create another partition press c
to delete the partition press d"

Its the standard windows xp setup screens

And before you got to this screen it didn't as you what you wish to do?

If that's the case, it's not finding the previous setup and as I stated
previously, that means it's too damaged for a repair install or at least too
damaged for the setup routine to recognize it.

I'm sorry, I've given you the only options of which I'm aware and that would
be to either do a clean install or use third party software to create a new
partition for a new install and then copy your data from the old setup to
the new one.
