Does memory affect data transfer speeds?

simple question,

Does memory affect data transfer??


I will be soon transferring data from a IDE harrdrive

to a sata hard drive that is running via a pci card controller

the memory at the moment is 512mb but if i were to make the memory 1gb will it speed up the operation?



what kind of speeds should i expect on the above set up?
