does frontpage 2003 conflict with office XP?

I have Office XP Professional (W/E/P/A/O) installed on my machine (P4 512 Mb
many Gbs of empty HDD space - WinXP Pro fully patched) I recently installed
FrontPage 2003. The install finished OK then did the search for Office
updates and installed a batch - some specific to the Office XP components
plus the current service pack for Office 2003. At no time in the whole
process was there a "restart" request. Everything seemed to work OK for the
rest of the day. When I restarted the machine the next day, Windows would not
start ( the little progress indicator on the startup screen halted a couple
of times early then just kept going and going and going .... I ended up
restoring to the pre-FrontPage install point to get the machine running again.

Is this a specific problem or random. In principle, I did not make any
changes to Windows so am at a bit of a loss. Any suggestions?

Hi Edeloup,

They are compatible with each other and I've not heard of any conflicts.

Did you turn off your antivirus software and any other processes that run in the background before installations?

One thing to make sure, when you install FP 2003, don't install any of the
shared office features. Just install the main program. THe shared office
features work with other Office 2003 apps and will end up over-writing the
Office XP ones, causing a whole slew of issues for Office. It could be that
one of the updates caused this behavior, but as to which one and why, it's
almost anyone's guess.

Hope this helps,
