Is Frontpage 2003 compatible with Office 2000?

Hi. I'm thinking about purchasing Frontpage 2003 (full version). I have
Windows XP and MS Office 2000? I also am using an old version of MS Access
97. Can Frontpage 2003 be installed (and run) without impacting my office
version and MS Access? Please help! I'm totally new to this and don't want
to mess up my machine. I thought Frontpage could run completely
independently from the other Office components. However, after reading some
of the posts here, I'm not sure. Please advise. Thanks!

FrontPage can run independently but I think it best to hold off on any
purchase. A whole new release of "Office 12" has been developed and will be
released later this year. FrontPage is being canned and no longer sold as
FrontPage. Its actually being rebranded for use with SharePoint. For web
page design and development there are other applications to choose from.

Thanks for the info! Do you think just installing the full version of FP2003
will work also?

Thanks for the info. That may be a possibility for later. What I really
need now is to get FP2003 up and running. We need this for my Homeowners
Association's website. It was initially created using FP2003.
Unfortunately, the guy who maintained it bailed (moved) and took the software
with him! So, we're trying to figure out how to maintain our site. We
figured that he used this, we would too. Good idea? Bad idea? I'm not a
web developer (I'm a mainframe/systems developer), so if there's a better
product out there that we could use, I'd appreciate any suggestions.
Currently our site just has informational stuff and links to pull up meeting
minutes (Adobe), etc. It's not that complicated. I'm pretty sure it will
never get "complicated". Any advice?

Well, as an ex mainframe/systems developer (with a bit of Unix thrown in for
a few years before I retired), may I say that I found FP useful at first,
but I soon moved to writing the HTML/CSS/JS code myself. Of course, I like
to use any useful scripts or other code that I find on the web as well. And
FP is still the vehicle I use for uploading.

So I guess I would suggest learning a bit of HTML. I don't have the URL of
your site - either you didn't post it or I have deleted it. But if you post
it here, I can have a look as a site maker (for my home site only) - I
wouldn't dare say webmaster - of just over one year's experience and say
whether I think it is very complex. If it isn't, I am sure you can soon pick
up enough HTML to keep it in shape.

Yes
- but it is best to do a custom install and not install the shared office tools

I followed the links you provided, and these new products seem to be
targeted at professional web designers. One of the advantages of FP is
it's relative ease of learning for the beginner, the non-professional
hobbyist or small business operator; is Microsoft abandoning that
segment of the market altogether?

The "Expression" program will be the closest replacement for FP users.

I don't know how they intend to play this out Deejay.

Thanks! I am particularly concerned about MS Access. I have a small
database out there for MS Access 97 and I don't want to lose it or corrupt
it. I have no intention of upgrading it at this point. It works for what I
need for my home biz. Eventually, I'll get something different, but right
now, it's customized for my needs. I wrote the screens, macros, and other
code myself. I don't want to go through debugging it for no reason. I'll
definitely take a backup beforehand, but Access is a pain to fix when
something "burps". (the fact that I kind of learned Access and VB on my own
doesn't help) Anyway, I'll take your advice and do a custom install. Is
there a pop-up that says "install shared office tools?" or not? What should
I be looking for so that I don't install the wrong things?

Thanks!

Thanks Trevor,
I'm just really looking to maintain what we have. I need a quick and easy
screen scrapper with document upload ability. It sounds like Frontpage can
do the trick and since that's what my predecessor apparantly used, that's
what we'll start with. I just don't want to mess up the install on MY
machine. The way I figure it, anything's gotta be better than using some of
the free webpage creators out there (geocities, etc.) - LOL! I've found them
to be rather unreliable when you get too advanced. That's when my limited
html knowledge helps or totally messes things up! I must say though, it's
kind of fun to do something else other than mainframe.
