Dodgy modem auto - dialers

J

Jusrtin

I have windows XP Pro and surf the web via an external
broadband cable connection running @ 600MB.

There is also a 56k internal dial-up modem inside the
computer that I have never used. However, over the past
couple of days, a rogue programme has got past the
firewalls etc, and is now auto-dialing my internal modem
everytime i go past log-on on boot-up.

The modem is not connected to the phone line so its not
going anywhere, but this is really annoying. How do I
find the culprit and remove it from my computer?

Many thanks, Justin

Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy .... or, if you know what you are
doing, take a look as MSconfig to see if you can identify the program
that is causing this issue at start-up

If you let the program dial out incidentally, your firewall should
identify what is trying to get past it, just be careful you aren't
dialling a premium rate number!
