Document protection cannot be activated

Hello,

How can this happen? Working on a document that I created and cannot get
the protection activated? When I open the Document proteciton task pane, it
is greyed out. Using 2003 and XP.

Does the document contain (or did it contain) anything from the Controls
toolbox? Or do/did you have macros in it?

And what's the setting of your macro security in Tools/Macro/Security?

There are no macros and the Security is set at Low.
