Document management

I'm looking to build a document management database. I need to know if its
possible for access to control the opening and saving of files, to force new
revisions and detect changes.

Do anyone know if this is possible, if so know of any related code. Or am i
going to have to buy some software to handle this and just use access as the
backend.

You can control the opening an saving of files. See the automation examples
at the 2 websites below. You can also detect changes by reading the last
modified date. You cannot detect any changes that you do not control with
Access, nor can you detect them after they have been saved.

I have previously loked at DocMgr, it was very helpful and i have learnt
from it how to control opening but not saving. I have also looked at both
your site and mvps and the most i could find was the file change notify which
actually doesn't help much.

Could you possibly point me in the right direction?
