I am trying to continue typing a paper and the document now says that it has
been locked for edit, what does this mean? I can type on anything, I can open
another document and start typing or anything! Can anyone help me out?

It always helps when asking a question to mention which version of Word you're
struggling with. If it's 2003, try Tools/Unprotect.

Most likely you haven't activated Word (Help | Activate Product) or it is a
trial version that has expired.
