I am unable to edit, paste on my document, it says that the selection has
been locked. What does that mean?

Does this happen with a particular document only? The document could be
protected, or the selection might include a content control that has been
protected from deletion.

If this is Word 2007, it almost certainly means that your trial version has
now expired.
