Doc opens as MDI file

We have one user who, whenever he opens a particular word doc, has it open
with an MDI extension. The file is posted on a sharepoint portal as a word
doc. No one else has this problem. Any ideas?

If you turn on display of hidden file types and
don't hide extensions for known file types in
Windows Explorer what is the actual file type?

MDI is the file type for MS Office 2003 Document Imaging (MODI)
files. They don't open in Word but the contents can be
sent to Word from MODI, and can't be viewed with earlier
Office versions.

If you copy the file to a new, local location on the
hard drive does it open in Word?

Found out the answer. Somehow, their default printer was changed to
Microsoft Document Imaging. Thanks for replying!
