Thx for the reaction,

Yesterday I tried to repair Word : no change

I think I found the origin of the problem, but I'm still not sure
because I can't get it right until now.

The steps I did until now :
1. In my administrator account evrything works fine. I realized that
the only difference between my admin account and the others is that
for the other accounts I changed the location of the My Documents map
to a partition on my harddisk other than the C:\ drive.

2. I created a new account, where I didn't change this location and it
seems to work fine, until now, windows mail does recognizes the DOC
attament and opens correctly with winword.

3. I tried to restore the original location of the map My Documents
for the other accounts to the normal place by clicking "restore
default location". The My Documents map is now back on C:\users
\accountname. However this didn't resolve the problem, i'm still not
able to open directly the attachment.

Have you any suggestions?
Thx

Carl,

Thanks for the observation. Will try to replicate the problem later.

Meantime, can you check if the problem is resolved by starting Windows Mail elevated (Right-click and choose "Run as Administrator")?

Hi,

I have a similar problem and I tried all the proposed solutions even
the DocFix tool :
- DocFix tool 1.1 is giving me all the time the same warning that it
needs administrative rights, even when I run the program as an
administrator. I'm using the dutch version of Vista Premium
- The Office version I'm using is Office 2000, everything works fine,
except for teh windows mail, where i'm not able to open the doc
attachments directly.
Could you please help me ?
Thx a lot

Carl

Ramesh,

Tried run as administrator, works allright, but doesn't open the
mailbox of the account with restricted rights, instead it opens the
administrator's windows mail with the administrator's accounts. As I
mentioned earlier logged in as an administrator the opening of the
attachments works just fine, so in this case everything works fine
too.

Meanwhile I found a workaround for my problem that's allright for my
situation.
1. I created a new account
2. left the "my documents" of this account in his original place
3. Copied all the data from my "problem account" to this new account
(=complete copy of "my documents").
Result : Windows mail works correct in this new account
4. I deleted the "problem account" and I have now a copy of windows
mail which copes with the .doc, .xls attachments as foreseen.

I renamed the new account to the name I gave originally to the
"problem account"

The only inconvenience is that the directory for this new account I've
created has a different name than the account itself. I tried to
change the name of this directory (c:/user/test) to (c:/user/carl) but
then my account won't open properly, so i restored the name given by
the system.
Everything works fine until now.
Thx a lot for the help !
