Do you wish to save changes to this document

I've found that every time I open a particular document and close it again I
receive the message "Would you like to save the changes you made to this
document?" I know that I haven't made any changes to this document (at least
intentionally). I have verified that there is no font substituion on this
document. This document was created by someone else so I suppose it's
possible that a change is occurring automatically when I open the document.
Is there a way to tell what this change is? This is for Word 2002 SP3.
Thank you very much.

It's probably just printer settings. If the person who created it used a
different printer driver than you use, his printer laid out line breaks and
page breaks differently than your does. When you open his document, your
printer settings adjust lines and pages a little differently than his did,
and the computer sees that as a "change."
