Do Not Archive

Is there a way to mark individual emails "do not archive"? The problem is
this: I mark many emails with a red flag indicating that later action is
needed; I leave these in a variety of folders and don't want these emails
archived no matter how long they stay in the folder even though I want other
emails in that folder auto-archived. So can I individually mark emails "do
not archive" or, better yet, set a rule that emails we red flags don't get
archived?

Dont believe so, perhaps create a 'follow up' folder and move your specific
mail to this?

Right-click any message, choose Propeties, and you'll see a Do Not Archive option.

This is how I remembered Outlook working too, but having tried this many
times I never see the option for "Do Not Archive (in fact don't recall seeing
the "Properties" choice) either, but perhaps I'm blind and I'll try again.
Thanks.

Sorry, I forgot the trick that makes this work: Select the item, then press Alt+Enter to bring up the Properties dialog.

With apologies for the delay; thanks for the useful responses. What you
suggest works fine. A related question: Is it possible to get a "Response
Required Folder" into Archives so that I could just look there for
red-flagged items having let them become archived?

If you have a folder named Response Required, then you set its archiving options on the Properties dialog for that folder. Otherwise, I don't know what you're asking.
