Do I really need to convert my WMV files?

I have a DVD player that supports WMV format. I tried different DVD creating
software (namely the adobe and sony one) but all of them seem to convert my
video files to MPEG-2. This is lenghty process and since my DVD player can
already play WMV it's probably unnecessary too. Does DVD standard accept
only MPEG vidoe? Is there a DVD creator that does not require converting my
WMVs to MPEG?

Thanks,

A DVD file is a variant of MPEG2 so no, there is no way you can create a DVD
without creating an MPEG2 file.

If you believe your DVD player can indeed read WMV files, then burn a DATA
DVD (not a Video DVD) containing just WMV files and try to get your
standalone player to read it.

Thanks Cari. Copying just the WMV data file plays fine. I guess the only
thing I'm missing is the DVD type of menues. I'll cope with it :)
