Will WMP convert DVDs to .AVI or .WMV

Is there any version of Windows Media Player for WinXP Home SP3 edition that
will convert DVD movies to popular video file formats such as .AVI or .WMV
for storage on the hard drive? If not, is there an add-on available?

Be Aware that copying copyrighted DVDs is illegal.

Windows Media Player cannot rip a DVD.

If you simply wish to play the DVDs from
your hard drive...you can use the following
freeware to rip the dvd to a folder on your
hard drive and then you can play the files
using the free VLC Media Player.

Just open VLC Media Player and go to...
Media / Open Folder / browse to and select
(highlight) the VIDEO_TS folder / OK.

You need a dvd encoder to play the file thru WMP,to save the file & convert
it,use WM encoder 9 series from microsoft.
