Do I need a new Motherboard?

Hi Guys,
Without going into the details of how or why I did it, I unknowlingly
partially fitted a DDR2 SIMM into a DDR SIMM slot and switched on the
pc. The screen remained blank and a slight electrical smell occured.
I realised my error with the incompatible SIMM and then refitted the
original DDR SIMMs and it got as far as the memory check and then
stopped. I'm concerned that I have damaged the motherboard and CPU.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte 7VM 333M - RZ with an AMD 3.0GHz CPU.

I have sourced a bundled AMD Sempron 3000, Heatsink and Fan, 512MB RAM,
Socket 754 Motherboard Micro ATX for £90.

I have 3 questions:

1.How hard should I kick myself? I have changed SIMMs many times
without error.

2. Have I damaged the motherboard and possibly CPU?

3. Is the sourced bundle the right solution, apart from taking the pc
back to the shop because I can't be trusted to own it. (old joke)

Many thanks for any answers....

Try another RAM slot...if you are lucky you just burned out that one slot...
anyway...the CPU itself is OK...so it's just the MOBO you ruined (and maybe
the DDR2)

Yes, I'm afraid that it's time for a new motherboard.
