Hi newbie here,
when I set up active directory, it automatically installed DNS, I am now
using it for a different purpose and have demoted it as Dom Controller and
want to uninstall DNS, But am unclear how to do so, can any one point me in
the right direction?

If you are sure you want to remove DNS you can do so from Control Panel >
Add\Remove programmes > Add\Remove Windows Components > Networking
Components.
Remember that DNS is used to locate other computers on the network so if you
have a home network and want computers to talk to each other you may need
it.
