Windows 2000 Pro Client

This box is sitting on a DMZ.

I cannot get to the internet or resolve anything using nslookup including
nslookup 127.0.0.1

Dns entries are valid servers.
gateway is valid and pingable

When I perform any nslookup, I receive the following error:

nslookup ibm.net (example)

DNS Request Timed Out
timeout was 2 seconds

**can't find server name for address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: Timed Out

Server: Unknown
Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

The messsage below is simply a message saying that nslookup cannot find a
PTR record for the IP given.
You can ignore the message or configure a reverse lookup zone and PTR. This
will not prevent nslookup from resolving names.
**can't find server name for address xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx: Timed Out

Server: Unknown
Address: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx

If DNS is not resolving external names, check Forward Lookup Zones for a
Root Zone which is a "."(dot) you can safely delete the zone, that will
enable the root hints after you close and reopen the DNS console (or refresh
the console). Once the console is refreshed you can also enable a forwarder
to your ISP's DNS on the Forwarders tab of the DNS server properties.

To Clarify,
This box is not part of a domain and it is not a DNS server. The DNS servers
that it is trying to use are external. I cannot adjust any records.

I cannot get out onto the internet from this box either which is what I am
using nslookup for (troubleshooting).

Thanks for the clarification, since it does not resolve 127.0.0.1 which is
in the hosts file, you may have a problem there.
The hosts file is in %systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc directory.

When you run ipconfig /displaydns what does it show?
If you are getting a lot of records you may have a trojan or virus.

Any services disabled like DHCP client service or DNS client service.

Displaydns shows about 20 records. It looks fairly normal to me. As does the
Hosts File itself.
Both DNS Client and DHCP Client are running.
