DNS server setup in the Network properties

There is preferred and alternate DNS server under the
TCP/IP properties in Windows 2000. But the Windows never
switch to the alternate DNS server. I have tried many
times to turn off the preferred DNS server to prove this.
Does anyone have the same experience who would like to
share with me? Or someone knows what is the problem.
