guys,

hope this info is at least understandable! we have a 2000
sql server on our network which has also been configured
to accept incoming ras connections (I think this has now
been disabled) the problem is that the server has two ip
addresses

if we ping the server by name it returns the ip
10.10.0.222 but it's supposed to be configured to
10.10.0.80, if we try to hit the server via ip in internet
explorer the homepage appears, if we try via name we get
an error

all of this appears to only happen every now and then, we
have patches of the day where it'll resolve happily, then
all of a sudden it'll stop working and exhibit the signs
above

we did find some info referring to the order in which the
network card(s)/ras connections were set from adapters and
bindings within advanced connections in network and dialup
connections but the primary nic is set to the top of the
list

sorry if I made no sense! but any ideas anyone?

Not unusual.

Swap the order of the IP addresses in the NIC/IP configuration.
Or remove the extra IP address which you do not want.

Check your IIS (web server) to ensure that the website is
set to BOTH or ALL Unassigned IP addresses.

If you use All Unassigned, make sure no other (inappropriate)
web site is assigned that address.

If yo have multiple addapters, you can remove the check for
"register this interface address" or you can give a MORE distinct
name to the (separate) interface and register THAT (check box).

I register my EXTERNAL nics with a domain name that includes
the line type/destination, e.g., cable.LearnQuick.Com and
dsl.LearnQuick.com, while the internal NIC just uses the domain
name. (All these get automatically prefixed with the machine name.)
