DNS or Firewall?

Hi,

I've posted here before and received assistance (thanks!) but I still can't
figure out why my computer can't access the Internet while another computer
can. I've checked out some of the possible causes, but to no avail. I used
the NetDiag tool, which didn't detect anything wrong. I'm left with three
possible causes for this loss of connection:
- some firewall I'm not aware of is blocking me (I searched for "firewall"
on my computer and found this file, AOLFirewallMgr.ini, which lists firewalls
that are installed and running on my system. I saw Nortons and other
firewalls such as ZoneAlarm and Black Ice which I've never heard of)
- DNS problem (I checked out the howtonetworking.com website about DNS. When
I did "nltest / dsgetdc:domainname" command I received "DsGetDcName failed:
Status = 1355 0x54b ERROR_NO_SUCH_DOMAIN")
- something has been deleted when I switched from Norton to McAfee which I
need to get online

Recently I uninstalled my ISP program (and upon doing so gained Internet
access) and reinstalled it (still had Internet access). Later on, I checked
to see if I can perform ipconfig/renew, but I received an error message
(can't contact DHCP server) and lost the connection again. I also would've
lost my connection if I brought my computer out of standby or restarted it.

Thanks.

Sounds like DNS issue. posting the result of nslookup here may help.

Hi Robert,

What command am I to put in? I'm not really familiar with this area, and
when I looked up on how to use nslookup I don't quite understand what I'm
supposed to do.

Thanks

OK, this is what I get using just "nslookup":

Default Server: nspitt.bellatlantic.net
Address: 151.201.0.38

(What I meant before was how to use the other commands after "nslookup" in
order to provide what information is needed to correct this possible DNS
problem.)
