dns issues

C

concern

I need help.

I am having some dns issues that I need to have resolve.
I have certain cleints that cannot get to certain of our
internal websites.
When I do a ipconfig /flushdns they seem to be fine after
that.
When I change the preferred dns to another domain
controller they have no problems connecting.
My question is how can I diagnose what the problem is
with this particular dc or am I having problems that are
bigger.

Do all DNS servers have the same zones?
If they don't have the same zones they need a way to resolve names they do
not own. If either DNS server answers with a name not found the query will
fail.

they all have the same zone but the problem is difficult
to troubleshoot because it not happening to everyone. I
checked the zone on each controller and the a records for
the websites were listed. Could this be a network issue?
Maybe the server is timing out when users logon. As a
result they cannot connect to resources.

This could very well be a networking issue. If it seems to be happening to
certain clients more than others check the client configuration and what is
cached in the client and flushing the cache to see if that clears it up.

Either a virus or using an ISP's DNS in the DC and/or client machine's IP
properties?
That can cause this.
