Hi, I have encountered a problem that requires some major help from someone
who is either a computer engineer or programmer...this is because my dad (who
is a computer engineer) took it upon himself to temporarily block a gaming
site I enjoy playing on my spare time...however he didn't go the route most
of you would think which is Control Pannel, Internet Properties, Content,
ect... I attempted to reach the site going completely through the ip adress
as well instead of the url thinking perhaps he just blocked that...but no
cigar. So now I am coming to you guys for help on this situation because this
is beyond my expertice ty

Check the C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file. Should only have one
entry.

127.0.0.1 localhost

Well when I checked I found out that there were multiple entrys with slightly
different variating names similar to the one you mentioned...such as (
hosts.boh, imhosts, ect) so from this step what do I do?

You want to look at a file "hosts" in "C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\".
Open "hosts" with notepad or wordpad. No other file is of interest. The
contents of the "hosts" file appears below.

# Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

127.0.0.1 localhost

Backup the file so that you can restore it if necessary. Then edit the file
using notepad or wordpad removing all the lines below "127.0.0.1
localhost".

Thanks a lot man, Ive been pondering over a solution to this problem for
weeks now...and my dad has always just said "don't even try to tamper with it
or attempt to fix it...because you are no computer engineer " then he just
walks off laughing...which if you knew my dad isn't very hard to believe. So
I would just like to say thanks one more time and if you could post your
email address or some way for me to contact you again if a problem
arrisesthat way I can ask you incase you may know how to fix it :)

As a father of a teenage boy....I have to ask, there has to be a good
reason he did this ? Does your spare time include every minute that you
are not sleeping or in school ?

Perhaps he got your midterm school report and thinks you should be
spending more time studying so you dont have to dig ditches for a living
when you graduate high school?

I'm thinking you should just obey the wishes of your father. If he
has blocked access to the site(s) it's for a reason.

Hopefully, if you do manage to unblock it, the next step will be him
delivering you a good ass kicking for not obeying him.

If the dad is a computer engineer, then you will not be able to access the
site. This is indicating that the original poster may be a "minor" in age.
