I get Page cannot be displayed (cannot find server or DNS
Error) when trying to load a just a few sites like
www.classmates.com while connected to cable modem.
However when I use dialup modem to gain access to
internet the page will load just fine. I have four
computers connected to the cable modem and all have this
problem. I have confirmed on two of them that when using
a dialup connection classmates loads fine, haven't tried
the other two. I had ISP (Roadrunner) send a computer
tech over. He could not fix the problem however when he
connected his laptop to my router he was able to load
www.classmates.com while on the cable modem. Most other
web pages load properly. I get the dns error on very
seldom but have confirmed that classmates is accesable.

I have a motorala cable modem connected to linksys
router. XP professional is installed on all four
computers.

I have the same problem. Some websites just wont fire up
(yahoo.co.uk for example).
I have a zoom X4 adsl/ethernet router , have not changed
any setting in the browser. I know the dsl is working
because some sites and email generally works.
Others just seem to poll for ages and then just get DNS
error.
I have uninstalled my firewall but that doesn't help.

I solved my problem. The sites that wouldn't load were
listed in a "hosts" file. The following is the method to
search and rename these files to see if that works.

1. Click Start, point to Search, and then click For
Files or Folders.
2. In the All or part of the file name box, type hosts.
3. In the Look in list, click your hard disk, and then
click Search.
4. Click all the Hosts files that are found. If there
is more than one, click one Hosts file, and then hold
down the CTRL key while you click other Hosts files.
Press F2.
5. Type a new name. For example, type oldhosts, and
then press ENTER.

goodluck

Thanks a million! It worked. I've been dealing with
this since about 10/20. Thanks, thanks, thanks!!!!!!!!
