DNS error

Hi all,
I am having a problem an event ID:1000 whereby the domain controller cannot
find the domain in DNS. I can ipconfig etc and it all appears to be OK. The
record that is supposed to be missing is _ldap._tcp.dc._msdcs yet it is in
the log and the server and clients can do an nslookup and find it. The error
in the event log is happening every 5 mins.
As a result the client is not joining the domain as it cannot contact the
domain controller, even though it is using the DHCP lease and the server
knows it is there.
Does anyone have any ideas where I can start looking?
thanks
Colin

Hi,

Are you getting any other event errors? What is the exact text of the Event
1000? Here are a couple of ideas:

329708 Windows Cannot Determine the User or Computer Name

Hi Marc,
the exact text is

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Userenv
Event Category: None
Event ID: 1000
Date: 28/09/2003
Time: 06:32:53
User: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: COL
Description:
Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network.
Return value (59).

I have tried both of the links previously, but as the I am getting the
message on the server (PDC) I am not able to rejoin the domain. I have
already tried undoing & then re-doing dcpromo, but that didn't either.

do you have more ideas?
thanks
Colin

Did you configure the DNS server on the PDC?
You need to add a zone for your domain name and set it to allow dynamic
updates.
See these links if you need help in configuring that:
