Greetings,
I have a box running Windows 98SE. It has IE6 installed on it.
Network is running fine. When I launch IE6 and try to visit
any site (www.yahoo.com, www.google.com ....) I get a DNS
error displayed with server not found.

If I go to start->run and type: ping www.yahoo.com or www.google.com
I get responses just fine.

I have tried completely removing the network setup and re-defining it. But
no joy. It won't display any pages.

I searched Microsoft's knowledge base and didn't find anything.

Any ideas what is screwed up? Do I just have to wipe and rebuild this box?

thanks in advance.

Well, went through and tried the recommendations.
Purged Temp internet files, history, cookies (including index.dat).
Renamed Wsock32.dll and had it retrieve fresh copy from cabs.
Checked registry keys. Removed Dial-up networking. Removed keys
in registry. Re-installed Dial-up networking. Removed entire network
config. Recreated.

Nada. Same problem. can ping 127.0.0.1. Can ping www.yahoo.com.
When I try to visit www.yahoo.com or any other site in IE6, I get the
dns error. Can't find server.

I have verified that nothing has been added to the hosts file.
any ideas ?

thanks,
Darryl
