I too have this problem.

This is what happens on the xp tower when I use ipconfig.
I have tried netsh int ip reset as stated in the microsoft
support article. it then shows DHCP enabled but still
assigns an automatic private address (ie not talking to
the DHCP server). I had WinroutePro4 on the XP machine but
this problem also occurs on my XP home laptop which is a
brand new machine. Does XP have a problem using DHCP? Is
XP dead. Should I downgrade my machines to 98SE (which I
know works)? Someone help!

I have an XP Pro box that will not successfully get DHCP info or preform DNS lookup.

If I hard code an IP to my netowrk I can then
successfully ping public addresses via IP but NOT by
name. several other machines on this same netwrok are
working fine.

I also have this same problem and the winnsockxpfix did not correct it...help please...sorry I can't help you...but I have tried everything P(.
