Ultra-DMA mode is automatically detected by the controller.
Opening either Primary or Secondary IDE will have an Adv.
properties, where the current operating mode is shown. It is
important to have the latest Chipset drivers for your MB as
they include the IDE sub-system drivers. If your PC has the
Intel Application Accelerator installed, then mode display is
done through that application and not from Device Manager.
In cases where a burst of errors occurs on an ATAPI/IDE
device Windows XP will step-down it's operating mode to
reach a speed where errors cease. In these cases the mode
will stay at that speed, until the controller is uninstalled and
reboot to re-enumerate it again (With maximum speed). To
speed up Windows boot time, you should set any unpopulated
channels from "Auto" to None.
