DMA and dvd burning

Hi, When i first got my new computer and i used my dvd burner, i could burn a
data dvd in about 10 minutes or so, at about 6x(my program, sonic, varies the
speed depending cpu usage, i think, so that it doesnt mess up?) but anyways,
now it wont go faster than 1.5x, if it even gets to that. I am using the
same kind of blank dvds. The only difference is that when I open my dvd
burning program, it says the DMA (direct memory access) is turned off. Every
guide to tell me how to turn it on has led me to the same place, and
according to my settings it is enabled. Yet i still get the message saying it
is disabled, and i believe that is the reason why my dvd burner wont burn
faster (it also reads very slow now too). Can someone help me?

You may also want to update the firmware for your drive, just type in the
make and model in the search field.

Windows disables DMA when the error rate gets too high. The solution is:
1. Get into the hardware manager
2 Remove the IDE driver for the IDE hub.
3. Reboot the system. By removing the driver you have forced Windows to
find the one in the \i386 directory.
All should be well until you get more errors.

If that happens, you should consider a new drive.
