1. Right-click the My Computer icon, select Properties, and choose the
Device Manager tab.
2. Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers to display the list of controllers
and channels.

NOTE: You cannot enable or disable DMA directly on an Optical Drive. You
need to set the DMA for Primary or Secondary IDE channel.

3. Right-click the icon for the channel to which the device is connected,
select Properties, and choose the Advanced Settings tab.
4. In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box, select "DMA if Available" if
the current setting is "PIO Only."
5. If the drop-down box already shows "DMA if Available" but the
current transfer mode is PIO, then toggle the settings by following these
instructions:

* Change the selection from "DMA if available" to "PIO only," and click OK.
* Repeat steps 4 and 5 to change the selection to "DMA if Available."

The DMA mode for ATA-ATAPI Devices in Windows XP will be enabled.
