Dllhost.exe Runs Out of Control When Uploading Pictures in Email

Guest

I've got a strange dllhost.exe issue.

Whenever I upload a photo in Hotmail, Gmail or Yahoo Mail dllhost.exe starts
running in the background and consumes 50% of my cpu until I cancel it with
the task manager. No other conditions start up dllhost.exe in crazy mode,
like that one.

Does anybody have any idea what is making it run out of control like that?
It will run forever unless I cancel the process.

I'm trying to figure out what your post means? Are you trying to be
helpful? What exactly is your point?

I am very disappointed that on my very first question in this community I get
a mean, condescending, unhelpful reply from you. I have never said anything
bad in this community and you turn around and treat me in this fashion the
very first time I try to find help.

I have reported you to the administrator. Your reply was completely
uncalled for.

How do you access your accounts? Thru Internet Explorer? Have you tried
another browser?

Don't make me come over there!

Dllhost.exe is part of Vista. The 3 web mail services you mention are simply
three applications that dllhost.exe cannot properly handle. If you do a
search on dllhost.exe you will see that plenty of other people are having
problems with it, too, involving different applications, not just web email.

Yes, it happens with Internet Explorer only. When I try it with Firefox
everything works fine. I don't mind using Firefox but it just seems odd
that Internet Explorer cannot handle a file upload from web email.

Hi DeeJoshy,

I am wondering whether you still have this problem. I have the same problem
and would like to know whether you have been able to resolve it (dllhost.exe
using 50% of CPU when uploading pictures and videos). If so, could you please
let me know what you did to resolve the issue? Thanks a lot.

Hi Chris,

The only solution I have found is to use Firefox. The problem only comes up
when I use Internet Explorer 7. I do keep everything up to date from
Microsoft in the hopes that eventually they will fix the problem but so far
they haven't.

Anway, now that I have been using Firefox for several months I really like
it and probably won't switch back.

Thanks Joshua for the prompt reply!

So the issue is truly related to Internet Explorer 7 and not Windows Vista?
Do I need to uninstall IE7 before installing Firefox? Or I can keep the two
browsers and the problem won't be happening if I only use Firefox?

You said that you were stopping the dllhost process when it was occurring.
Has this caused any other problems (because some say that ending dllhost.exe
may cause system problems)?

This is a really weird issue as it does not seem to be happening to every
users of IE7 (i.e. there are not much information on the Web about such an
issue).

Thanks again.

Hi Chris,

Yes, the problem seems to only occur when using Internet Explorer 7.

No, you don't need to uninstall Internet Explorer 7. As long as it's not
fired up there will be no problem. Both browsers can reside on the same PC.

I only got the dllhost problem with IE7 and whenever I stopped it, by using
the task manager ,I never had any issues at all. I have never been able to
get a clear answer on exactly what dllhost does. Other than the fact that
it can serve as a substitute for another program (thereby hiding it's name
and intentions) which I find a bit uncomfortable. I like to know what every
program running in the task manager is for, no expections.

I am not a Mircrosoft basher by any means but they sure messed up on their
new version of IE7 with Vista. I would prefer to use IE7 if only it would
work properly. :)

Thanks so much again Joshua. This is very helpful!

I will try to install Firefox and will let you know if this addresses my
problem!

Why isn't Microsoft working to address this issue? They should develop a
patch or something as I am sure, this is happening to a lot of users, it's
just that many do not check the task manager and don't even know that the CPU
is being used at 50% by such a hidden program (when uploading pictures and
videos).

Thanks for your help. Have a very nice day.

Chris
