I'm getting the following error - can someone tell me how to fix it

Control Panel. Add Remove programs. Remove .NET 2.0 and re-install it.

I looked in the control panel and there is no .NET 2.0 and where would I
find the re-install - would it be on the disk I got with my computer?

thanks

Alex,

I might be wrong, but Net 2.0 is built in Vista, is it not?

No, all the different versions of .Net framework are not built into Vista or
XP. They are used by developers when writing third-party programs. That's
why you will often have .Net 1.1, 2.0, and possibly 3.0 installed - because
different software mftrs. wrote their programs with the different versions.
All the versions of .Net framework are available for download at
Microsoft's download site.

Malke,

I did not make the statement ALL versions of .Net framework is built into
Vista. I'm very well aware what Net Framework is. If you search the net I
think you will see conflicting web sites that state 2.0 is built in and just
this morning I found some that says 3.0 is as well.

Quote from a web site:
How to repair the .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.0 on Windows Vista
Since the Windows Vista public launch in January 2007, I have been receiving
questions about how to repair the .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.0 to try to
resolve various bugs. As I previously described here, the 2.0 and 3.0
versions are installed as OS components on Windows Vista and do not appear
in the Programs and Features (formerly known as Add/Remove Programs) control
panel.
End Quote:

I do know for testing I downloaded 2.0 and it said it was already installed
and just like above it does not appear in Programs and Features.

Well, I have a clean install of Vista - installed the gold RTM and then
installed SP1 from MSDN a couple of days ago - with no third-party programs
installed there is no entry in Programs & Features for any .Net framework,
any version. Now, perhaps there are elements of .Net whatever in the OS,
but none of my clean Vista installs since the very beginning (I was in the
private beta so have done quite a few clean installs of Vista on my own
boxen) have ever had .Net framework be part of them.

Of course, your installs may have - there is no way for me to know that.

Hi,

Please do not multi-post to different newsgroups, cross-post instead. That
way, a reply to either newsgroup will be available to both newsgroups. That
said, you will find my response to your query in your other post in 'Windows
Vista Performance and Maintenance'. This post is also cross-posted to the
other newsgroup.

Hi Malke,

The .Net Framework (v2) is an integral part of Vista. Always has been. It
will not show up in Programs and Features. The only "bit" in Programs and
Features relates to components of v3.

It lives here:
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET

First I want to apologize to the OP for hijacking this thread.

Jane your reply is just as I was aware of, but tried in a nice way to get
Malke to see what I was talking about. For some reason she took my reply
completely out of context and then wants one to believe because she has been
a Beta tester for Vista she knows more about Net 2.0 being installed as a
component to Vista than anyone else. Anyway this is my last reply, believe
what you want, it's your opinion and you are entitled to that :)

I have to agree with Malke here. I have a virgin install of Vista from MSDN with SP1 and no other software installs and there is no trace of Net Framework of any version on this Vista install.

Peter,

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET

Vista Ultimate, x64, clean install of SP1 integrated from Connect. If there
was no .NET present, then I have several applications that wouldn't be
working ;)

You also don't see IE7 in Vista's Programs & Features either, but it's
there.
It's very simple to test if you think you don't have Net 2.0
Download it and see if it will install.
