DivX / mpeg4

I download the DivX codec from http://www.divx.com which claimed to enable
WMP to play DivX files, and I ended up with a DivX player that will play
them but, WMP still will not ! Am I missing something sinple somewhere ?

.....it seems that only completely downloaded DivX files can be played, - I
found that the 5.2.1 codec is installed. After running DivFix.exe on a
partially downloaded DivX file, WMP played it okay !

This is because the index for the avi is at the end of the file. If
you do not download the entire file, then it will not play. As you
found out many times using divfix on it will make it playable. Or you
could use a program like VideoLan which will play partial avi files.
