Distribution List vs Category Functionality

Loren Smith

I am using Outlook 2003 and am used to using DLs. I have been reading
posts here about the advantages of using Categories for Dynamic
Distribution Lists. One of the advantages of using DLs is that I can
select multiple DLs in the To/CC/BCC field and send to multiple DLs in
one step.

My question is this, is it possible to send a single email to multiple
categories?

Yes.

I would do it like this:

Group By Category.
Collapse all Groups (right click a group heading)
Ctrl Click to select each of the Category Groups you want to email
Grab any of those selected groups (where it's now blue) and drag to the Sent
Items folder.(it will take all selected groups)

All recipients will be in the To... field
To move them to the BCC field, wipe the lot to select them (click at the
bottom end, wipe your mouse up to the top left corner of the list)
Grab and drag to the Bcc field. (OOPS: turn it on FIRST if it's not on)

Thank you Judy,

That is a pretty slick solution. I would never have thought of that -
and this isn't my first run around the block.

I'm looking forward to stopping by your website.

Well let's just ay that 7 years of teaching this quirky piece of software
has meant I know a few fancy tricks!

I'm keen to put a lot more of them on my web site so I don't have to keep
retyping them in answers to posts.
