Dissolve transition effect not blacking prior slide out

When using dissolve (small black squares randomly filling) this works with
the first slide ... all others (because they are formatted the same) look
like a jumbled mess for a few seconds and then display. How do I set
transition to clear the screen or black out the previous slide?

The dissolve is intended as a very rough cross fade type of transition.
Since most of your slide is the same, it does not look very good (as you
observed).

You can ...
... Insert a black blank slide with a .1 second auto advance and
dissolve transition. This would dissolve to black, then dissolve to the
next slide.
... Insert a black object over your slide that dissolves out
automatically when entering the slide.
... Use the fade thru black transition
