dissociating files

could some some please advise me on the following or direct me to a proper
tech chat room:: I would like to dissociate a file that I previously
associated with a program and return it to the to the generic icon and no
association.
 
Open up My Computer, click Tools, click Folder Options, click File Types,
scroll down in the list until you find the file type in question, highlight
it, and click Delete.
