Displaying other windows in Word

Yong Jun

Hi,

I'm a user of Word 2007. In my work, I frequently need to cross reference
with other sources such as web browser, pdf files, excel files etc. I find it
particularly troublesome to have to switch between windows everytime i need a
piece of information somewhere else.

I know that we can open multiple doc within word, but is it possible to open
other programs like pdf, browser, excel etc. Is there some plug-in that
serves this purpose?

Or how about some modification that bring my word window to the back and
other windows to the front (maybe rendering them semi transparent) so that i
can see the contents in them while i work in word?

Depending on memory, you can have any number of different programs open at
the same time. If you want to be able to open them from within Word 2007,
you'd need to write VBA programs to start those programs and then assign
them either to the QAT or to key combinations. A VBA program could also size
and arrange the windows. However, those would not be displayed "in Word". As
to transparency... I suspect that that would require a whole different
operating system or some heck of a clever add-on.

For most of us, the best current solution to the need to see more stuff at
one time is to use two or more monitors. Many computers' video cards have
both digital and analog connectors, which permit you to connect two monitors
at the same time. You then spread your desktop across two monitors, doubling
the size of your desktop.
