When sending a message in Windows Mail, the 'TO' line shows the recipient's
name and email address. Is there any way to just show the name and not email
address?

Thanks,

No, Windows Mail shows both.
The newer Windows Live Mail only shows the contact name, unless the contact
has more than one email address.

Thanks Dave for your reply, I had a feeling that would be the answer.

How does Windows Live Mail differ from Windows Mail and what happened to
Outlook? I have MS Office Professional 2007 that I am getting ready to
install, but don't want to install Outlook and learn it if Windows Live Mail
is the one to use.

Thanks again,
Judy

Windows Mail was released with Vista, but it hasn't been updated in the past
18 months. It can only access POP3 and IMAP accounts.

Windows Live Mail is newer and can access POP3, IMAP and Hotmail/Live
accounts.
Both can access newsgroups. Both are basic email programs.

Outlook is a more powerful email/calendar/contact manager. It can access
POP3, IMAP and Hotmail/Live (with the Connector program) accounts. It can't
access newsgroups.

Since you already have Outlook, why not try all 3 and see which one you like
best? I use all 3, plus Thunderbird.

Dave, once again thanks so much. I have a hard enough time conquering one
let alone 3. LOL To be honest, I do quite well with Outlook Express, kind
of like we have bonded. I will give Outlook a try and see if the bonding is
there also.

The question about the email address is for a friend of mine who has Vista.

Dave, I just thought of something you said and that was Outlook will not
access news groups. Now this will show my lack of knowledge. This isn't
referring to Yahoo Groups is it? I belong to a ton of them and they come
into my email program (OE) as digests.

Newsgroups are available from a variety of providers, not just Yahoo.
I don't know if Yahoo has connected some of their Yahoo Groups
to newsgroups. Google Groups has connected some, but not all, of
their Google Groups to newsgroups.

Yahoo Groups via email and newsgroups via a news reader are two
different applications. One does not affect the other.

AFAIK, Yahoo groups are only accessed with a web browser, like Internet
Explorer. The digests are just email messages.
This message is a newsgroup post, being sent to msnew.microsoft.com. You
are accessing this group with your web browser.
On a XP computer, Outlook uses Outlook Express to read newsgroups. On
Vista, Outlook uses Windows Mail.

Thanks so much. I was real worried there for a minute. OK, I'm think I'm
done now.
