My disply will not stay on long enough to do anything. Its going completely
black when you move the mouse or just start up the computer. You have to
turn the computer off and unplug it for the monitor to come back on and it
will not stay up but a few minutes and then goes black again. I need help.

Could be hardware related. Such as Video Card failing, CPU failing. I
don't think it has anything to do with WinXP.
Try pulling the plug on the Computer and disconnect the Display from
the rear of the Computer. Make sure there's no
stress on the Display Power Cord. Reconnect and see what happens.

What kind of display (LCD or CRT)?

To check for bad hardware, try the monitor on a second computer, or try
a different monitor on the problem computer. If you don't have a second
computer or monitor, then check that all your connections are secure,
and proceed to test for bad software.

To check for bad software, restart in Safe Mode (reboot and keep hitting
F8 until you see the prompt to choose which kind of boot you want). If
your display works fine in Safe Mode, you have some kind of bad
software. You can often fix this problem by reinstalling the display driver.
