display stretched

My display has suddenly become stretched so that the start button is off
screen to the left and the right hand part of the display is off to the
right. i have a radeon 9500 graphics card. I was told to go to their website
and download the latest driver which I did to no avail. I have tried the
monitor buttons to no avail(apart from moving the display more to the right
so I have access to the start button). I have been to properties but no
matter what I do the screen display is still stretched. I have recently
installed Service Pack 2 but seemed to be working ok. At around the time the
problem occured I had downloaded and installed the lates 4 patches and had
also used BT Yahoo Anti-Spy and got rid of the items it recommended. I have
tried going back by using System Restore but still to no avail. I have just
read somewhere that I might need a new monitor driver. Is this so ?

The "monitor" buttons should provide you with a "menu" that allow
horizontal size adjustment. Please review the owner manual for correct
button instructions.

tks bob but i have used the buttons. I can bring my screen down from the top
and up from the bottom but the button to move the display in from the sides
does not appear to be working. In any case, no difference was noted.

If in fact the adjusting buttons on the monitor are broken then it
becomes somewhat difficult to assign the problem to the Operating
system. What is the monitor make and model and how old is it?

Hi Bob
Tks for your interest

I bought the monitor as part of a
package from Time Computers and believe it is Model 778SI Rev B and it was
manufactured November 2002, if that means anything to you (got that from the
rear of the monitor itself). Sorry I can't be of much more help, although I
have had computers since 1999 I have never needed to do any troulbleshooting
before.

That model number only comes up with someone else having problems, and
"Time Computer" comes up with "rebadged" monitors so no real clue as to
what the beggar really is. I would try adjusting the refresh rate to a
different value and see if things look better. Display, Settings,
Advanced, Monitor, Screen Refresh Rate. As far as "monitor drivers" go,
all there really would be is an information file for the monitor listing
the permitted refresh rates, screen resolution and color depth.
