I'm upgrading graphics card from 128 MB to 256 MB. When I change cards,
must I re-enter the former display settings? Will they be saved? Will the
new card require that some settings be changed?

Thanks

If you are switching from one Manufacturer to another you will need to
uninstall the old video drivers...uninstall the video card under Device
manager.
Then shut system down and switch cards. When you reboot XP will detect the
new card and install XP's generic drivers to run at the settings that you
have set for your monitor. Then install the new video drivers....and double
check the settings .

It is also a good idea to switch the graphics mode to VGA (480x640, 8
colour) before removing the old card. That way XP will use the new card
initially in VGA mode (a mode that's universal to all graphic cards). This
avoids any heartache if XP dries to configure the new card in a manner that
it doesn't recognise (bearing in mind that there are initially no drivers -
XP won't have generic drivers for many of the newer cards on the market).
Once you have all the drivers loaded you can select the higher resoultions
and colour.
