display Resolution Problems

I, as a result of age or whatever, seem to prefer a screen resolution
of
640x480 . Many of todays softare applications are written for a screen
resolution of 600x800.I did increase my screen resolution once, for a
certain program that i wanted to run. however, after i exited that
program, i wanted to change my resolution back to 640x480. win XP no
longer retained the resolution setting,so i couldn’t switch back.the
only way to get back to that default screen resolution was to
reinstall my display card. I did so. Now, i’m afraid to access any
program that requires a higher resolution, which is basically
"everything.I don’t want to be duped into having a higher screnn
resolution. And, by the way, changing the DPI in the higher screen
resolution is also not for me.Changing the DPI
only takes action on the size of the fonts, and deviates my software
programs to run off the screen. It distorts the display. I don’t
want distortion. I don’t want to run off the screen.I just am used
to a resolution
of 640x480 both at work and at home. So, is there any way to keep that
resolution yet run these newer software programs. Any
suggestions???Thank U, Thank U, Thank U

You don't mention the name or type of video card you have?.. It may be that
you need to update the display drivers for the card. Changing screen
resolutions is usually simple and effortless process in XP with a supported
and updated video card.
I would not install another program that will make changes to your desktop
until you solve the video problem first. The H-menu program apparently has no
uninstall feature, that alone should be a warning sign..

Jaymon, you miss understand what this person is trying to achive, this
person wishes to have a method of easiliy switching between 640X480
and larger resolutions, microsoft desided in XP to disable (in one
sence of the term) 640X480, hence forth this person problem.

Also, it is not a "video card" it is a Graphics Card, a video card can
be a TV Capture card or a Video Editing card, it is not a Graphics
Card. H-Menu dose not requier a uninstall feature becasue windows
never thinks it is installed, insted of instaling the "traditional"
sence of creating a program that is used to uninstall it and creating
some registary entries along side, all you need do to uninstall it is
delete the folder you installed it into, also by default it dose not
run on startupo, which other programs with uninstalers do, programs
that run on startup with out telling you should have warning lables
attached.

If you get a larger monitor you can increase the resolution while
keeping about the same physical font size you prefer. E.g. if you go
from a 14" monitor to a 17" monitor, and at the same time from 640x480
to 800x600, the physical font size will remain nearly the same.

Another option is to go to a higher resolution, but enlarge the Windows
fonts using Control Panel, Display, Appearance.
