When I right click my desktop to open display properties and click the
desktop tab, The "position" which allows you to stretch, center, or tile the
desktop wallpaer is greyed out. I did a restore to thursdays set up but it's
still greyed out. I have tried to find the proper settings, but I'm lost. Can
you help an oldster out? Thanks..

What type of files are you trying to stretch et al. Does it happen with bmp files?

This is happening with all types of files. Even the original wallpaper that
comes with windows XP. I also tried .jpg, .bmp. The position option is always
grayed out and unusable.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
See if you have a wallpaperstyle=1 there, delete it if so.

Followed your directions and I have "wallpaperstyle=2"
should I delete that?

0, 1, 2 specifies tile, stretch, centred (not in order). Yes delete. Post back if it reappears after a logon.

There is no normal way of setting this that doesn't also specify the wallpaper (so you can't change that either). Maybe you ran a tweaking program.

Ok! Dumb question! What part of that key do I delete? Just the number 2, or
the whole key? And Thanks for the help.

The whole value. Keys are the folder looking things, values are the file looking things, the contents of the value is the 0, 1, or 2. You want to delete the value (which will also delete the contents)

Well, first I modified by removing just the number 2, but that didn't work.
So, I will go back and remove "wallpaperstyle" or the whole value. You're
right when you said I must have tweaked something. I had D/L TweakUI and must
have made a change to my Reg. I have since removed TweakUI and now I have no
idea which item I tweaked..I guess I'll never learn to quit playing with this
crazy toy. Will let you know how this turns out. Bill
