display properties problems

Hi. Back in Oct, I downloaded a Halloween theme for my computer. When I
tried to change it back to the Windows XP theme, I was unable to. In the
appearance tab of the display properties, it will only change to windows
classic style. I tried to change the theme back to windows xp, and my
computer locks up on me, gives me a message of "please wait" and never
recovers. I then have to restart to get my computer back. I tried to remove
the halloween theme with add/remove programs, but it wasn't listed, so I
individually removed each component. I unfortunately did not have a restore
point set to go back to. So, I'm out of ideas. If anyone can help me get
back to the Windows XP theme, I'd appriciate it. Thanks
 
Hello. Try this, go to control panel,open up administrative tools,then the
services tab,then scroll down to themes,then make sure it's
running from there. Hope this helps.
 
Hi. Thanks for the info, but it didn't help. I checked, and it was running
from there. I even stopped it and restarted it and it still didn't change
things. Any other ideas?
 
I couldn't find anything on the site that could help. I'm just not having
good luck!! I really do appriciate the ideas and I'll take as many as anyone
can come up with :-)
