Display Magnification

Since I downloaded XP SP-1 and some other upgrades, my display is always too large for the screen. On the desktop, the icons are much larger and farther apart than they were. In my client-management program (Maximizer), I can't get to the bottom of the window where the tabs are. Internet Explorer now has a horizontal scrollbar, whereas none was needed before. I can't find a way to fix the problem through Control Panel or otherwise, and I would appreciate any help.

The only thing I can think of is if you right click on the desktop and bring up
Properties
Then go into Settings tab,
Click of Advanced
Under General - are the DPI settings at Normal Size (96 DPI)?
