Display - LCD Monitor

LCD 19" x 10" monitor gives problems. Recommended setting is 1440 x 900.
Lesser settings give somewhat blurred images and especially text; on many
web sites, text is almost illegible, letters not fully displayed,
discontinuous in outline. The recommended ones yield, on web sites, text
almost too small to read. Less than 2 mm. sized letters.
Tech support no help. Browser's size change option (in View menu) has no
effect on most sites. Any suggestions much appreciated.

As well as the font, play around with setting or clearing TrueType. Display
Properties > Appearance > Effects > "Use the following method...."

Someone in an e-shop showed me a magnifier, thought it was to be found in XP
win accessories. Not there. 3rd party software? Know of any good ones? The
magnifier I saw looked like it solved all problems.

In XP it is located in accessories > accessories > magnifier
