Digimate LCD Warranty ?

Sorry if this is a bit OT

In February I bought a Digimate 19" L-1925 LCD monitor, and two or three
days before the 20th September '06, it died on the DVI input. (I swappped
out DVI graphics card to a known good one to rule out a dead graphics card).

The monitor was collected by Digimate under the 3 year on-site swap-out
Warranty on 20th September, and almost three weeks rolled by before I
started asking questions. Today, I phoned Digimate and a lovely young lady
told me that they would be sending me out a brand new L-1933 on Tuesday but,
that it doesn't have a DVI port. This is VERY disappointing to me as I
specifically bought the thing because it had a DVI port, and I bought a
Nvidia graphics card with a DVI port on it, to go with it. As soon as the
young lady told me it would be replaced with a L-1933, (which I can't find
on the Digimate site or anywhere else for that matter), perhaps she meant a
L-1931 ...so I just said "...okay ...thank you very much."

So, does anyone know, (I'm in England, UK btw), if they're allowed to do
that ? Digimate don't seem to be suplying LCD's with a DVI port on them
anymore, and during the past few days I've rummaged around the web a bit
with Google, and it seems that many makes and models of LCD monitors with
DVI are failing on the DVI input ports. So my guess is that they've stopped
supplying them until the DVI section of the hardware in them is improved ?

Any thoughts appreciated,

regards, Richard

I guess it would depend on the wording of their warranty statement as to if
they can do that. You should call again and explain to them you have a DVI
video card in your computer and need a DVI equipped monitor. Be firm about
it. If they no longer make them that way, ask for a refund. Customer
satisfaction should be important to them.

Doesn't really matter about the warranty wording, the law is fairly clear
here.
My sister had a Samsung 42" plasma TV, very expensive, which failed at 2 1/2
years old, well outside the mfrs.1 year warranty.
She was told by the dealer that it was unrepairable, parts couldn't be got,
was out of warranty and charged her £55 just for that.
I started looking into it, especially the terms of the "Sale of Goods Act"
which states that goods must last a "reasonable length of time" regardless
of any warranty.
In this case that "reasonable length...." turned out to be up to 6 years!
I did exactly as I suggested to OP, and after the first formal recorded
letter she got a call from Samsung to tell her that they were giving her a
brand new 42" plasma with higher specs than the original.
I also got her a refund of the £55 she had paid to the dealer for a repair
estimate.
Moral to this is don't be put off by waffle about warranties etc., in my
experience Small Claims Courts will invariably come down in favour of the
little guy against a big company and usually even the threat of court action
will resolved it.

Thanks Kenny, I'll telephone them later this morning and see what they've
got to say. When I spoke to them , ...now yesterday, ...it briefly crossed
my mind to hold out for "equal or better quality and spec's" etc. but, it
could prove difficult if they've stopped supplying LCD's with a DVI port on
them - and I don't want to fall out with them and get nothing back ! I'll
be tempted to accept the non-DVI replacment and give it to Dad to replace
his CRT, and buy myself a different brand.

If accepting a non DVI replacement press for better quality in some other
way ie: faster response time or higher contrast ratio.
I've just bought a Samsung Synchmaster 940BF which has a response time of
2ms, the fastest I am aware of.
It has both 15pin analogue and DVI inputs, both cables supplied and a free
copy of King Kong the game.
Bit expensive but a real beauty.
Best price I found for it was Amazon UK.

WELL ! really !!!! Digimate just delivered to me a lovely new L-1931,
....and there is a DVD-D connector on it, right beside the VGA 15-pin D-sub
connector, (after them telling me there would be no DVI-D on the replacement
! ...getting me all worked up for nothing ...good job I wasn't rude on the
'phone ! )

....now I wish I hadn't sent the DVD-D lead back / that came with the L-1925,
as requested (please return all leads and packaging etc.) ...bit slow there
....weren't I !

....so I'll buy a DVI-D lead and hope that there is some circuitry connected
to the "innards" side of the DVD-D port, ...the on-screen menus have the
feature to switch from DVI-D to Analogue - so it looks like it's all
singing and dancing !

Anyway, thanks to Digimate, ...it's nice to know they honour their 3 years
on-site swap out warranty :)

regards, Richard
